Ashneer Grover Stayed Strong Amidst Allegations and Launched a New Start-Up

After BharatPe, the people of India will witness another startup in the fintech community. Ashneer Grover is set to create his venture very soon after the harsh battle with BharatPe. The Ashneer-BharatPe Saga is spurring nationwide interest after he resigned from the pivotal role of BharatPe recently. Let us dig deep into the matter.

A New Unicorn is on The Rise

Ashneer Grover is in discussions to fund $200-300 million to launch a new company with family offices in the US and international private equity players. "He may use some of his wealth to start with. Eventually, he may either sell a part of his stake in BharatPe or raise fresh capital by issuing a stake in the new company. He has met at least six investors regarding his new venture. Discussions are preliminary right now." reported a close contact.

Ashneer Grover, the ex-MD of the Fintech company BharatPe has been accused of money laundering. The 40-year BharatPe co-founder started a new company named "Third Unicorn Private Limited" along with his better half Madhuri Jain. Though it is not a new hardship in their lives, Madhuri Jain also got sacked from BharatPe before with the allegations of misappropriation of the company funds. She was accused of exploiting business funds for international family outings and paying her personnel.

Co-founder of fintech startup BharatPe Ashneer Grover was sacked from all of his duties on March 2 after the organization accused his family of massive financial wrongdoing. According to Grover, the allegations made against him, such as that he stole money from the company to fund a luxurious lifestyle, are motivated by personal hatred and immorality.

The Grover family is charged with stealing money from the company and creating fictitious suppliers to utilize it to fund their opulent lifestyles. According to BharatPe, Mr Grover quit shortly after being informed that the Board of the firm would be given the findings of an external consultant's review of the internal controls. In his letter of resignation, Mr Grover said that he was being treated horribly and was belittled. Moreover, he reported that he would continue to be the greatest individual shareholder in the business.

Mr Grover attended pristine institutions like the IIT Delhi and the IIM Ahmedabad for his education. Before managing to start BharatPe, Grover worked as the Chief Financial Officer of Grofers, a company that delivered groceries and is now known as Blinkit.

Starting of BharatPe

BharatPe was founded by Shashvat Nakrani, a former student who left the prestigious Indian Institute of Technology New Delhi in 2018. After partnering with commercial gaint Bhavik Koladiya, Mr Nakrani surveyed small businesses to learn more about the problems with digital transactions in India. They extended Grover an invitation to join the founding team after a few months of work.

The team came up with a lucrative business plan that involved collecting transaction data from retailers to automate the underwriting of loans to shop owners. As a result, BharatPe took daily deductions for loan instalments at a monthly interest rate of 2%.

BharatPe is known for its fintech assistance. Since its start, the firm has provided commercial loans totalling more than 3000 crore rupees. The company's current value is now $2.8 billion. BharatPe's services are used in 150 cities by over 75 million merchants each. BharatPe and Mr Grover have conflicted since the voice recording became publicized. Grover, a former investment banker, was a key player in the financing process and helped get $2 million from Sequoia and Beenext almost immediately.

Grover's wife, Madhuri, trained in fashion designing and assisted in shaping the business by managing every element of it, from hiring to marketing expenses. One executive said that after a few months, the couple had integrated themselves so thoroughly with BharatPe that Nakrani receded to the background of daily operations.

Not many people are also aware of the issue that surrounds an alleged audio tape in which he reportedly threatens and mistreats a Kotak Bank employee. Because of the dispute, he is compelled to take a voluntary leave of absence while this scenario is investigated.

Starting of Conflicts

The nation's IT community started to become viral when an audio clip was released on Twitter. In it, someone who resembles Grover criticizes a Kotak Bank employee for failing to get funding to purchase Nykaa IPO shares. The bank staffer asks mostly polite inquiries, yet the video is laced with slurs in Hindi. On Twitter, Grover refuted that it was not his voice. Unfortunately, that tweet was deleted, so there is no clue to understand whether it was his voice or not.

Ashneer Grover is hated by a lot of people due to his terrible behaviour on Shark Tank India and his egoistic demeanour. He was witnessed abusing the participants inhumanely and without justification. Unlike the other judges who address the contestants as "aap," Ashneer often addresses everyone as “tu.”

This merely demonstrates his lack of manners on a fundamental level, as he makes no effort to smile for the camera. Moreover, the Singapore International Arbitration Center rejected Mr Grover's urgent request to postpone a review of the organization's governance before his departure. He said in his appeal that the committee members looking at the corporation's governance seemed biased.

Grover pressured company employees to work hard as the company flourished. The salespeople reportedly had to reach lofty inhuman targets by pressuring merchants to provide credit to obtain loans.

To wrap up, Mr Grover is determined to build his empire despite lots of difficulties, acquisitions, and mistreatments. But his never-ending enthusiasm and self-commitment stop him from bowing in the face of criticism. According to a comment he provided to Bloomberg, the only extravagant quality he has is the ability to overcome all obstacles in order to achieve his goals. According to some people, he is going to invest from his own money as he has an 8.5% share at BharatPe, which will have a value of around $ 3 billion. All we can do is wait to see how far the water goes.
