Rajkummar Rao On His Struggle: 'WE HAD NO MONEY’

Rajkummar Rao has slowly but steadily moved up to the top of the acting world. After getting great reviews for several movies, he finally broke through when Stree made more than 100 crores at the box office. But his path has been full of ups and downs. He has been turned down, replaced, and had his role cut short. He has seen everything. Not only that, but in this honest interview, Rao also talks about the money problems he has had his whole life. He talks about how he made ends meet in Mumbai when he had no money to eat or buy clothes. Rajkummar Rao's struggling days were not easy, just like any other middle-class guy trying to chase his dreams.

Sharing bits and pieces of his journey, he said in an interview, “I used to have a hard time. I come from a modest middle-class family. When I was in school, I didn't have any money, so my teachers paid my school fees for two years. We lived in a really small house when I moved to the city. I thought Rs. 7000 was too much to pay for my share. I needed between 15,000 and 20,000 rupees a month to live, but sometimes I would get a message that I only had 18 rupees left in my account. A friend of mine would have 23 rupees.”

He also said that sometimes he didn't have enough money to eat. "FTII is a very large group of people. We would sometimes borrow money. On other occasions, we would just go to their homes and eat with them. I didn't even have enough money for good T-shirts. My friend Vinod is also an actor, and we used to ride our bikes to auditions together. I had no idea how to look or what to wear for the presentation. With all the pollution around, we would just get down and clean each other's faces with rose water and think that it was the best version of ourselves." But given where he is now, it wouldn't be wrong to say that dreams can come true if people just keep going.

It would have been easy for this movie to go too far, but Rajkummar Rao gives one of his greatest performances.

5. Stree

Stree was one of the most unique and unusual movies. Horror comedies haven't done well in Hindi cinema because they have to walk a fine line between being boring and stupid.
